Science fair project boards provide an effective means of organizing your work and communicating it to viewers. A typical science fair display board typically comprises tri-fold boards which unfold to approximately 36″ tall by 48″ wide dimensions.
Content presented for a science fair project should be presented logically from top to bottom and left to right, using photos and diagrams as aids to quickly conveying information.
Tri-fold boards
Tri-fold boards make an excellent addition to a science fair project. Students can keep their information organized and make it easily readable from all sides, as well as present graphics and charts with ease. Students can add borders or other features using color construction paper; alternatively, using an online tool, they can design and edit their boards in real time.
An effective science fair display board must clearly communicate an experiment’s purpose, hypothesis and research plan. Furthermore, results and conclusions must also be displayed along with an easily recognizable title that can be read from a distance.
The first panel should include an introduction or problem section, followed by literature analysis. The following panels should outline procedures and materials used during your experiment with any significant findings highlighted. Finally, display results and conclusions chart format; text must be legible from several feet away.
Single-surface buddy boards
Your child will have more success with his or her display if it is organized from its inception. Create an initial checklist to make sure all elements necessary are included and ensure students do not neglect any details in their final presentation. This can help students stay on task and prevent missing important elements out.
As part of any project, selecting an appropriate text size and style are also paramount. Text must be legible from several feet away even in a crowded room, be spaced evenly, and feature an easily legible font style.
Make sure that your student includes an engaging title at the top of their project. They should then include a section detailing their research methods before concluding their experiment and sharing what your child learned from it with audiences. This will make their project stand out amongst others at science fair and provide audiences with a good sense of what your student accomplished from it.
Poster letter products
Alphabet posters provide an effective means of helping students learn their letters or reinforce letter sounds, offering students visual aid and several words beginning with each letter of the alphabet. Plus, many come with mini flashcards you can use as flashcards or add to a ring for easy flipping!
Poster letter products, often seen in doctor’s offices and clinics as photo posters featuring bands, musicians and celebrities, offer more space for images with less text compared to smaller poster sizes. They make excellent displays on larger bulletin boards.
Poster boards can be created using one sheet of paper hung from a wall, or tri-fold posters which stand on an easel. Referring to your science fair’s instructions will help determine the kind of board you should create; rubber cement or white glue may work well when adhering sections or decorations to tri-fold posters.
Photo paper
Planning your child’s science fair project board effectively is essential to effectively presenting the results of his or her experiment. An ideal board should be easy to read and structured in an organized fashion; including sections such as research, hypothesis, materials, procedure and results.
Photo paper can make your science fair display pop! Additionally, its transparency makes text easier to read. When attaching photographs to poster boards using rubber cement or Aleene’s tacky glue be mindful not to cause scrunch-up upon drying time.
As with other projects, photographs should be used to present non-numerical data and drawings should show experimental setups or models. You should avoid using bright colors for the background as these may distract judges; dark hues provide more soothing ambience that will help make your presentation look professional. Furthermore, using a dry-erase marker makes writing on the board much simpler.
