Science fair projects should be engaging, hands-on and exciting! Here are a few projects designed to pique kids’ curiosity while inspiring them to design their own experiments.
Learn the art of DNA extraction using just a few basic supplies – this project makes for great practice for future forensic scientists!
Discover how water’s effects on seed growth with this easy experiment, while teaching students about water density.
Spherification
Food science projects provide an ideal opportunity to investigate exciting concepts like chemical reaction and molecular gastronomy. This food spherification experiment utilizes ingredients you likely already possess to make tasty popping boba treats and explores how different foods react when subjected to spherification, and whether adding sodium citrate or altering pH alters the outcome of this particular experiment.
Spherification is a technique for turning liquids into spheres. Caviar pearls found on restaurant menus use this same process, creating thin gel layers around liquids that release flavor upon consumption. Sodium alginate and calcium chloride react together to form these spherical treats that can even include acidic beverages such as Coca-Cola. But you must find sources of alginate and calcium suitable for making these treats.
Hydraulics
Hydraulic systems consist of pipes, hoses and pumps which use liquid to transmit force from one point to another. Furthermore, these systems can multiply these forces; for instance, if one piston’s surface area is nine times greater than another’s then its movement will be twice as significant per unit of force applied.
Learn the ins and outs of water cycling with this classic science experiment, perfect for kids of all ages. Just a few supplies are necessary – making this experiment ideal for young learners!
Use this simple experiment to discover which paper towel can absorb more water. Perfect for 7th grade science fair projects!
Snakes
Snakes are legless reptiles that evolved from lizard ancestors. Their long bodies and lack of limbs allow them to move easily through various habitats such as deserts, grasslands and forests. Snakes are carnivorous predators, eating both warm-blooded animals as well as cold-blooded ones; venomous snakes kill prey by injecting poisonous venom through their teeth to immobilize it while non-venomous species often kill prey by constricting their bodies on them or by constricting them against themselves with their bodies thereby killing off their prey before swallowing it whole.
Try one of these enjoyable experiments as part of your science fair project and observe and write down all your observations – this will come in handy when it’s time to present it at the event! Be sure to record information like how high your volcano reached or weight changes after conducting your experiment as well as any additional details relevant to it.
Cars
Students of all ages can get excited about STEM with these creative projects. When selecting one, consider what excites you most; reading news reports or making observations around town could provide inspiration.
Take this classic experiment that tests gravity and acceleration or this science-meets-art experiment that utilizes absorption to make blossoming paper flowers. Or try this socially-minded project that investigates whether music helps or hinders memory retention; determine whether your cell phone emits harmful radiation that may harm humans; put engineering skills to the test with this car design challenge for children – or find out more by visiting this link here.
Batteries
Battery technology is integral to our society and daily lives. From flashlights and cars, to home security alarms and home appliances, batteries provide energy that keeps devices running.
Give kids an opportunity to gain more insight into this incredible invention with Science Buddies’ great science fair project idea: battery science fair project idea. This fun experiment shows children how batteries function while providing them with a printable to share their findings with others.
Does a sports drink really enhance performance? Put it to the test with this intriguing science experiment idea from Science Buddies! Kids will love this science fair project that combines magnets and mud! For added fun, add in magnets with this magnetic mud experiment from STEAMsational!
